Dr. Jonathan F. Bean is a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bean is an internationally recognized expert in geriatric rehabilitation, having been elected as a member to the National Academy of Medicine in 2024. The goal of his work is to foster the development of new models of care that optimize the functioning of older adults. This includes an emphasis on principles that are prioritized within Age-Friendly healthcare systems. These overarching goals are addressed through his recent leadership of the VA based New England Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). Specifically, his research focuses on developing new models of care that position rehabilitation as the center piece of secondary prevention of frailty and adverse health outcomes among older adults. He leads a strong federally funded research training program for trainees of all levels desiring to pursue a career in patient-oriented research. In recognition of his accomplishments and contributions to healthcare, in 2024, Dr. Bean was inducted into the National Academy of Medicine.
