Dr. Adalberto Loyola-Sanchezm, MD, MSc, PhD, Assistant Professor, Division PM&R, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta. Dr. Loyola-Sanchez completed his medical & specialty training in Mexico City and his research training at McMaster University (MSc and PhD, Vanier scholar) and at the University of Calgary (postdoctoral studies, Banting scholar). Since then, he has been working on developing a program of research to design, implement and evaluate community-based rehabilitation programs for people living with disabilities produced by chronic illnesses in outreach communities. This program has mainly focused on underserved populations (i.e. Indigenous rural communities in Mexico and Canada). He is currently working clinically in the Spinal Cord Injury program at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton and together with Dr. Chester Ho, is leading a CIHR funded project to create a model to improve transitions in care for people with SCI in Alberta, through a community based participatory research strategy. Dr. Loyola-Sanchez is also the new principal investigator for the Rick Hansen Spinal Cord Injury Registry and one of the leaders for the Alberta- Spinal Cord Injury Community of Interactive Learning Series (AB-SCILS) a community-based initiative aimed at empower people with SCI, their family members and all people involved in their world to help improve the quality of life and full community integration of individuals with SCI in Alberta. Dr. Loyola-Sanchez is also working on expanding his program of research to address gaps in rehabilitation services out of the Edmonton zone. Dr. Loyola-Sanchez is located in Edmonton.
