Case Diagnosis: This presentation reviews the functional impact of neuro-orthotics on gait rehabilitation after stroke and other central nervous system disorders
Case Description: 42 yo female with hemiparesis impairing walking improved by the use of a near-orthotic KAFO that controls the ankle and knee during swing and stance phases resulting in a ore functional gait pattern not previously achieved with a traditional AFO
Discussions: This case will illustrate the importance of the use of advance orthotic devices in rehabilitation to improve functional gait. These new technologies are an important component of the now available tools for gait restoration.
Conclusions: Understanding the biomechanics characteristics can result in better component selection, prescription and outcomes.
