Dr. Bryan O’Young is the Medical Director of Physiatric Pain Management at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and PM&R Residency Program Director at the Geisinger Health System. He is a clinical professor at the New York University School of Medicine and an adjunct clinical professor at the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. He holds several international appointments as a visiting/adjunct professor at several universities in China and the Philippines including Peking University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Capital Medical University, University of the Philippines and University of the East.
Dr. O'Young graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University with a major in Neuroscience and completed his medical education at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He fulfilled his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency training at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinic in Madison, Wisconsin. After completing his residency, he joined the faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and subsequently at the NYU School of Medicine, the Weill Cornell Medical College and the Geisinger Health System. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation with a subspecialty in pain medicine. He is also a certified physician acupuncturist.
His areas of expertise include PM&R education, pain, and integrative medicine. He has received several awards in PM&R education and international exchange. He has been invited as an international speaker in over 200 presentations and published over 90 educational and clinical research publications. He was the chief editor of the first, second, and third edition of PM&R Secrets and is the chief editor of the upcoming 4th edition of PM&R Secrets.
He serves on the Executive Committee of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) as representative of active individual members of North/South America and as the chair of the ISPRM- UN Liaison Committee. He also serves as the continental director for North/South America for the ISPRM International Exchange Committee. He serves on the Advisory Board for the International Council of Caring Communities (an NGO with special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council) and for the UN Digital Health Initiatives.
Dr. O’Young is very much devoted to working with the global community in advancing the rehabilitation profession. Through the exchange of knowledge and ideas, Dr. O’Young hopes to preserve the dignity and maximize the potential of every person with pain and disability from around the world.
