Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar Pandey is Professor and Head of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, India, and a leading voice in advancing rehabilitation medicine in emerging healthcare systems.
With over a decade of leadership at AIIMS Patna, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening PMR services, academic training, and disability care models in Eastern India—one of the regions with a significant unmet need for rehabilitation services. His work bridges clinical excellence with public health impact, particularly in disability assessment, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, neurodevelopmental disorders, and amputee care.
Dr. Pandey is actively involved in shaping rehabilitation education and policy through his contributions to the National Medical Commission and the National Board of Examinations, India, as well as multiple state public service commissions and universities. As Vice-President of the Indian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IAPMR) and President of the Bihar Association of PMR (BAPMR), he has been instrumental in strengthening professional networks, standardizing training, and promoting advocacy for persons with disabilities.Chairman SCI,SIG group of IAPMR.
A published researcher with over 50 peer-reviewed articles and a reviewer for reputed journals, he is committed to advancing evidence-based rehabilitation practices in low- and middle-income settings. Dr. Pandey continues to contribute to the international rehabilitation community through academic collaborations, capacity building, and efforts aimed at reducing the global burden of disability.
