Biography of Taslim Uddin
Professor Md Taslim Uddin is one of the pioneer specialists in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) in Bangladesh with extensive academic, clinical, and research contributions. He currently serves as Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Bangladesh Medical University, where he is actively involved in postgraduate medical education, clinical training, and advancement of rehabilitation services.
He holds MBBS, FCPS, and FRCP qualifications and has built a distinguished academic profile with over 114 scientific publications, along with authorship of two books and contributions to three book chapters. His research work spans key areas of rehabilitation medicine, with particular emphasis on brain injury rehabilitation, spinal cord injury management, and the growing intersection of climate change, health, and disability. His scholarship also highlights the challenges and solutions for delivering rehabilitation services in low-resource settings, contributing significantly to global discussions on equitable rehabilitation care.
Professor Uddin has played an important role in strengthening professional networks and academic exchange. He has organized many national conferences with international participation through the BSPMR and contributed to global rehabilitation dialogue, including the 2nd World Conference of the International Rehabilitation Forum. His leadership continues to support the development of PMR education and practice in Bangladesh and beyond.
In addition to his academic work, he has contributed to international disaster response efforts. He served as a rehabilitation medical specialist with a WHO Foreign Medical Team during the 2015 Nepal Earthquake, providing critical acute rehabilitation support in emergency conditions.
Professor Uddin is an active member of several national and international professional bodies, including the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons, Bangladesh Medical Association, and the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, among others. Through these affiliations, he continues to contribute to advancing rehabilitation medicine, medical education, and research globally.
