Andrew Haig M.D. is founding president of the International Rehabilitation Forum, a not-for-profit organization that brings together dozens of American and international PM&R physicians to lead development of the specialty in low and middle-income countries. Under his leadership the IRF held the first conference on disaster rehabilitation, launched the first PM&R training programs across sub-saharan Africa, and mentors dozens of rising stars across the world. The organization is a founding member of the WHO’s World Disability Alliance and the formal partner of the International Society for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine for global growth. In the United States the IRF seeks teachers, mentors, fundraisers and support for its global mission.
Professor emeritus of PM&R and the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Dr. Haig holds adjunct appointments at the Medical College of Wisconsin, University of Vermont and Dartmouth College. At Michigan he founded the Interdepartmental Spine Program, the pain fellowship and the cancer rehabilitation program. Author of over 175 peer-reviewed publications in electrodiagnosis, spine care, and team dynamics, his work has been recognized by the top international spine and EMG research awards, and top American and international PM&R leadership awards.
Currently Dr. Haig runs a rural rehabilitation clinic in Middlebury, Vermont when not biking, skiing or kayaking or hanging out with family.
