A/Prof Bhasker Amatya is A/Executive Director, Clinical Services, at the Qatar Rehabilitation Institute, Doha, Qatar. He holds honorary appointments as Principal Fellow at the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, University of Melbourne, and at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He previously served for over 20 years as Senior Research Coordinator and Project Manager at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia. He completed his Doctor of Medical Sciences at the University of Melbourne (2017), his Doctor of Medicine at Lviv National Medical University, and a Master of Public Health in Clinical Epidemiology at Monash University.
He has more than two decades of experience in rehabilitation research, project management, and service development across neurological, cancer, trauma, and disaster rehabilitation. His work focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based models of care that enhance quality, efficiency, and continuity of rehabilitation services. He has also played a key role in fostering international collaboration and capacity-building, including coordination of the Global Rehabilitation “Flying Faculty” to strengthen rehabilitation services and training in low- and middle-income countries.
Dr Amatya served as Interim Chair of the Disaster Rehabilitation Committee, ISPRM, and as Research Coordinator, Disaster Rehabilitation Special Interest Group of the Rehabilitation Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand. He has led and contributed to numerous research initiatives, including randomized clinical trials, and has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers, including eight Cochrane systematic reviews and two book chapters. He serves on the Editorial Board of Frontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences and reviews for multiple neuroscience and rehabilitation journals. His career reflects a sustained commitment to advancing rehabilitation medicine globally through rigorous research, system strengthening, and evidence-based practice, with particular emphasis on improving outcomes for vulnerable populations and resource-constrained settings.
