Ultrasound Identification of Neck Muscles for Dystonia Injections

Brief Session Description : • Introduction (10 minutes): Overview of workshop objectives and clinical relevance of ultrasound in dystonia treatment.
• Session 1 (30 minutes):
o Review of neck muscle anatomy with a focus on dystonia-related muscles.
o Importance of accurate muscle identification in treatment outcomes.
• Session 2 (30 minutes):
o Live demonstration of ultrasound scanning on key neck muscles.
o Identifying normal anatomy and common variants.
• Hands-On Practical (45 minutes):
o Supervised ultrasound scanning with instructor guidance.
o Interactive feedback on technique and imaging interpretation.
• Q&A and Wrap-Up (15 minutes):
o Discussion on common challenges, clinical integration, and case applications.

Session Objectives:

  • By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Understand the relevant neck muscle anatomy and its importance in dystonia treatment.

    • Learn the principles of ultrasound imaging and its application in muscle identification.

    • Perform hands-on ultrasound scanning of the key neck muscles.

    • Improve confidence in targeting muscles for botulinum toxin and other therapeutic injections.
