To evaluate the inter-rater reliability of sarcopenia diagnosis using the ISarcoPRM algorithm, specifically focusing on the Sonographic Thigh Adjustment Ratio (STAR) values, after a short-term training program for physicians with varying levels of ultrasound (US) experience.
Design:
A prospective study involving 16 raters, including specialists, residents, and medical students, who underwent an intensive training session on the acquisition of STAR values. The raters assessed 17 volunteers, and their measurements were analyzed using Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) to determine reliability.
Results:
An overall ICC of 0.97 [95% CI, 0.94-0.99] was observed among all raters, indicating excellent agreement. The ICC for residents and students was 0.98 [95% CI, 0.96-0.99], while the ICC for specialists was lower at 0.70 [95% CI, 0.38-0.88].
Conclusion:
Short-term intensive training enabled reliable STAR measurements among a diverse group of raters, including those with minimal US experience. These findings support the use of ISarcoPRM in clinical practice for sarcopenia diagnosis, even by physicians with limited US training, potentially improving early detection and management of sarcopenia in stroke patients.
